An EasyJet flight heading to London from Egypt was forced to make an emergency diversion to Rome after concerns were raised about a power bank charging inside a passenger’s luggage.

The flight, EZY2618, departed Hurghada on Tuesday evening and was expected to arrive at Luton Airport in the early hours of Wednesday before the situation prompted the crew to take precautionary action.
According to EasyJet, a passenger alerted cabin crew about the device, leading the captain to divert the aircraft to Rome Fiumicino Airport in line with safety regulations. The airline confirmed that the plane landed safely and passengers disembarked without incident.
In a statement, EasyJet said the diversion was purely precautionary, stressing that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority. The airline added that hotel accommodation, meals, and refreshments were provided for affected passengers after the overnight delay.
The flight was later rescheduled to continue the following morning.
The incident comes at a time when EasyJet is also dealing with softer summer bookings, which the airline linked to uncertainty surrounding global tensions, including the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
EasyJet chief executive, Kenton Jarvis, recently stated that the airline had not experienced any disruption to fuel supplies and assured customers that no fuel surcharges would be added to already booked flights.
