Former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Benue North East, after defeating the incumbent senator, Emmanuel Udende, and other contenders in a landslide victory.
The Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee in Benue State, Sabiu Mahuta, announced the results on Tuesday at the APC state secretariat in Makurdi.
According to the results, Suswam polled 131,083 votes to defeat Udende, who scored 1,364 votes, alongside other aspirants.
In Benue South senatorial district, former member of the House of Representatives, Francis Otta Agbo, clinched the APC senatorial ticket after securing 58,760 votes.
He defeated several aspirants including Daniel Onjeh, who polled 5,570 votes, Patrick Idoko with 2,732 votes, Gabriel Oloche who scored 5,246 votes, Nelson Alapa with 4,312 votes, and Joseph Ojobo who polled 6,782 votes.
In the same vein, Aber Terseer, husband of the Secretary to the State Government, Deborah Aber, was declared winner of the APC Benue North West senatorial primary.
Aber, a retired customs officer, defeated incumbent Senator Titus Zam and other aspirants to secure the party ticket.
He reportedly polled 93,412 votes, while Senator Zam scored 2,763 votes.
The outcomes suggest a strong performance for candidates aligned with Governor Hyacinth Alia, as several of his loyalists reportedly secured tickets across the state.
Meanwhile, the results also reflect setbacks for political figures aligned with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, as some of his supporters reportedly lost out in the primaries.
More updates are expected as the APC prepares for the general elections in Benue State.
