Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.

Fubara made the announcement in a personally signed statement on Wednesday, where he revealed that his decision came after what he described as deep reflection and wide consultations with family members, friends and political associates.
According to the governor, his decision was taken in the interest of peace, unity and stability in Rivers State. He also assured party members that he would fully support whoever eventually emerges as the APC governorship candidate.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries,” Fubara stated.
The governor stressed that Rivers State remains bigger than any individual ambition, adding that the current political climate requires sacrifice and restraint from leaders.
Fubara also appreciated his supporters for standing by him throughout his political journey, acknowledging the sacrifices, prayers and loyalty they invested in his ambition. He admitted that many supporters may feel disappointed by the development but urged them to remain calm and committed to the larger interest of the state.
Speaking further, the governor explained that his silence amid growing political pressure in recent months was intentional and strategic, noting that every action he took was guided by the desire to protect the peace of Rivers State.
Using a local proverb, Fubara said not every challenge or experience should be openly discussed in public, adding that wisdom sometimes requires silence and restraint.
“It is enough to say that I have faced immense pressures and difficult choices, but my love for Rivers State remains greater than anything else,” he added.
The Rivers governor also thanked the All Progressives Congress for giving him the platform during the political process. He equally expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
Fubara described the APC as a collective political family and urged party faithful to remain united and focused on building a stronger future for the party.
He further clarified that his withdrawal from the governorship race should not be seen as weakness, fear or surrender, insisting that the decision was made purely out of conviction and sacrifice for the peace and unity of Rivers State.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure in office.
