Makurdi, Benue State — A governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State, Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun, has asked the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to declare him winner of the disputed governorship primary election scheduled for May 21, 2026.

Kuraun made the demand in a statement issued on Friday, insisting that he was the only aspirant who fully complied with all the party’s requirements ahead of the exercise.
According to him, his level of preparation and compliance qualified him to emerge as the valid candidate of the party for the 2027 governorship election in Benue State.
The APC governorship aspirant claimed he was the only cleared contestant who submitted a complete list of ward and local government agents to the party’s Governorship Election Committee at the APC secretariat in Makurdi.
He further stated that his agents were fully mobilised and stationed across the state in readiness for the election, alleging however that election materials were never deployed to the field despite earlier verification at the APC State Secretariat.
Kuraun explained that his representative, Dr. Samuel Tondo, verified the election materials in the presence of a representative of the incumbent governor before the process allegedly stalled.
He maintained that he has pictorial and video evidence to back up his claims, stressing that his preparedness clearly distinguished him from other aspirants participating in the race.
The governorship hopeful therefore called on the APC national leadership to either declare him winner of the primary election or organise a fresh exercise supervised by an independent committee appointed directly by the party’s national headquarters.
The controversy is coming amid rising tension surrounding APC primaries in different parts of the country.
Recently, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, warned party members and supporters against circulating unofficial results or making premature victory claims.
The party had insisted that no official governorship primary results had been released, maintaining that only authorised organs of the party in Abuja could announce authentic outcomes.
The situation has continued to generate reactions within political circles in Benue State as stakeholders await the party’s final position on the disputed primary process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
