The primary election took place at Ireti Nursery and Primary School, Mekwen Street, off Queens Drive in Ikoyi, Lagos, where party members turned out in large numbers to participate in the direct primary exercise.

The APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election is being contested by President Tinubu and businessman Sterlyn Osifo, leading the party to conduct a direct primary election to determine its flagbearer.

Voting commenced early in the morning amid tight security, with supporters, party faithful, and stakeholders gathering at the venue to show solidarity with the President.

Among the top APC leaders present to monitor the exercise were Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, APC Lagos State Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, and party chieftain Kola Peregrino.

President Tinubu arrived at the polling centre around 11:35 a.m., shortly after the accreditation process was concluded.

Speaking before voting commenced, Pastor Ojelabi praised party members for maintaining order throughout the exercise, describing the process as peaceful, transparent, and well organised.

“The rewards of your loyalty to the party will yield proceeds in due course. Thank you for the wonderful support for our President and the APC,” he told party supporters.

He further added, “Today, we are here to re-elect the candidate of your choice. Let Nigerians know that APC is the best party in Nigeria.”

At the conclusion of the exercise, the ward returning officer, Martha Adikwu, announced that Tinubu secured 4,996 votes out of the 5,163 accredited voters in the ward, sealing a dominant victory in the poll.

The result is expected to further strengthen the President’s grip on the APC structure in Lagos, widely regarded as his political stronghold, as preparations for the 2027 general election gradually gather momentum.
